| Growth rate, condition and mortalities in groups of oysters in oyster-beds in the Belon River were studied during 1968 and 1969. The growth rate up to the beginning of the summer was higher in 1969 than in 1968. Variations in the condition of the oysters during the 2 summers were related to the state of development of the reproductive organs and this sexual development was earlier in 1969 than in 1968 because of a sudden rapid rise in temp. Whereas relatively mortalities occurred during 1968, many oyster beds in the River Belon were decimated during 1969. | 2 ponds (or lagoon) were studied in order to establish the economic possibilities of their exploitation for oysters. Bathymetric and sediment maps were produced using methods described. They indicate a morphological similarity between the ponds, with a superficial broken bed and a regular, flat or gently sloping bed beyond 7 m, the general form reflecting the aerial relief of the adjacent `coast'. The deeper regions had mud or clay sediment, while the edges of the ponds were covered with sand. In more detailed studies it was evident that the banks of Diane were more regular and steep than those of Urbino, and that only in the latter was there a good relationship between the depth of water and the carbon/nitrogen ratio. | Deux modèles de croissance de P. elephas ont été utilisés : modèle linéaire de Kurata (1962) pour la croissance relative, et modèle de Van Bertalanffy pour la croissance absolue. La fréquence de mue et la durée de l'intermue ont été déterminées en combinant la relation taille-age de Von Bertalanffy et l'équation de croissance à la mue de Kurata. | The Belon oyster farming centre, despite its economic interest, has, up to now, only been the subject of periodic investigation. In 1923, HINARD took on the study of oyster farm beds in order to compare them with those of another well-known area, Marennes. Later, within the framework of oyster larvae research, VOISIN (1932), TACLET (1935) and HERMAN (1935 to 1938) engaged in a few observations there on temperatures and densities during the months of June and July, the flat oyster's breeding period.
